Ergonomic innovations alleviate pain and reduce fatigue for drivers working long shifts.

We designed the interior cab of Raymond’s Sit/Stand Reach-Fork truck to provide operator comfort in narrow aisle applications with long travel distances.

The truck has a quick-folding seat to enable the operator to change positions from sitting to standing, providing postural relief over the course of a shift. We also designed lean points into the cab to provide more flexible options for alternate standing positions, and optimized the controls for seated or standing use. These positional changes improve operator comfort, and reduce pain, fatigue, and tension. Over time, this can benefit worker posture, productivity and mental health.

The most-promising solutions were built as full-size foam bucks to test with operators ranging from 2.5th percentile females to 97.5th percentile males. This testing allowed us to establish and validate the required proportions and refine the surfacing.
