ECLIPSE

Providing surgeons with precision-control, superior ergonomics, and intuitive deployment.

We worked with MedShape and our engineering partner, Enginuity Works, to design the deployment device for their innovative Eclipse Soft Tissue Anchor, used to attach tendon or ligament to bone in shoulder, knee, hand/wrist, and foot/ankle procedures. The surgeon inserts the shape-memory PEEK sheath into the prepared tunnel, and uses the device to advance the insert into the sheath, expanding it to secure the tendon.

Our deployment device provides the surgeon with a reliable and precisely-controlled method to implant the anchor. The rear knob enables the gun handle to be rotated independently of the anchor, giving the surgeon the freedom to switch hands or re-position to a more ergonomic position without disturbing the ideal anchor orientation. The trigger lock eliminates the risk of accidental deployment while positioning. We’ve reduced the force required to expand the anchor by using multiple pulls of the trigger to gradually advance the insert into the sheath. The sutures are securely held out of the way, on the top suture cleat, until needed.

Medshape reports that sales of the system have been “phenomenal”. Additionally, the design has allowed them to leverage the same handle design across a wide range of implant sizes and surgical procedures, reducing development and tooling costs.
